Warehouse Sector

Wireless LAN Security is Mission One
Warehouse setting

Wireless LAN for the Warehouse Sector

Mobility always comes to the top as a key feature of wireless LAN in the warehouse sector. Inventories can be completed in much shorter time when data is entered directly into system database using handheld devices and barcode scanners. Pick lists can be updated "on the fly" for quicker response. Be sure that any site surveys are completed after the warehouse building has been filled with shelves and stocked. A WLAN system that can automatically tune and adjust itself to accommodate physical changes would be very desirable. After all, a half stocked warehouse is going to look different than a fully stocked one as far as the RF signal pattern.

Security issues:

The most important thing to secure in the warehouse sector is the integrity of the inventory database. You don't want outsiders hacking into the system and changing inventory and cost/prices. Wireless LAN security implemented with WPA2 and AES encryption along with a RADIUS server for authentication meets these requirements. Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems detect and shutdown rogue access points. Security monitoring is a must-have in the warehouse sector.
